scholarships Opportunities At Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Memorial Scholarship Fund 2022 The Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere Memorial Scholarship Fund was established on 12th October, 2009 in commemorating the great achievements of the Father of our Nation Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere. 

The Fund is primarily dedicated for sponsoring top undergraduate female students to pursue Mathematics and Science studies in Tanzanian accredited universities, with the aim of promoting academic excellence of the students in respective fields. The Fund also sponsors male and female Tanzanians to pursue undergraduate studies in the fields of Mathematics, Science, Economics, Information
 

1. General Scholarship Information:

The Fund scholarship package covers full tuition fee, stipend (accommodation and meals), field allowance, research funds and one laptop computer. Successful applicants are required to forfeit any other loan or bursary arrangements provided for the same study course and academic year.

The Fund invites applications for scholarships annually after announcement of the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) results by the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA). The Scholarships are announced in the Bank of Tanzania website and in other media, including newspapers, radio, television stations and social media within the United Republic of Tanzania.

2. Selection Criteria:

Scholarship for Undergraduate Studies

a) Mathematics or Science Category (50% of Scholarship Opportunities) Applications for Scholarships under this category are for female candidates only and who shall be required to meet the following criteria: –

  • Must be a female Tanzanian citizen who has completed Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education in the same year of application;
  • Must be among the top best performers nationwide in Mathematics or Science subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations;
  • Must have secured admission into one of the accredited Tanzanian universities to pursue undergraduate studies on a full time basis in the field of Mathematics or Science.

b) Mathematics, Science, Economics, Information Technology, Accounting or Finance Category (50% of Scholarship Opportunities)

  • Applications for Scholarships under this category are open to both male and female students and shall be required to meet the following criteria: –
  • Must be a Tanzanian citizen who has completed Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education in the same year of application;
  • Must be among the top performers nationwide in Mathematics, Science, Economics, Commerce and Accounting subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations;
  • Must have secured admission in one of the Tanzanian accredited universities to pursue undergraduate studies on a full time basis in the field of Mathematics, Science, Economics, Information Technology, Accounting or Finance

Graduate Studies-Master’s Degree Scholarships

An applicant for a Scholarship under this category shall include both female and male, and shall be required to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a Tanzanian citizen who has completed a bachelor degree in studies related to Mathematics, Science, Economics, Information Technology, Accounting and Finance with a minimum GPA of 4.0;
  • Must have secured admission at a Tanzanian university to pursue a Master degree on a full time basis in the field of Mathematics, Science, Economics, Information Technology, Accounting or Finance;
  • Must not be more than thirty-five (35) years old.

3. Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere Memorial Scholarship Fund beneficiaries

Since its inception, the Fund has sponsored a total of fifty-two (52) students amongst which thirty-two (32) students have successfully completed the programs with higher grades (First and Upper Second classes); and are currently serving the nation in various capacities. Accordingly, twenty (20) students are continuing with undergraduate and post graduate studies in accredited universities in the United Republic of Tanzania

Vanessa Rutabana and Mr. Herman Pauline Kamugisha. The Awardees were top students in 2019 ACSEE and are pursuing bachelor degree programs – Doctor of Medicine and Biomedical Engineering respectively at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS).

Some of the 2017/18 beneficiaries of the Fund pursuing Doctor of Medicine Degree studies at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (4th Year). They were among the top students in 2017 ACSEE Science subjects, from Left to Right are Miss. Sophia R. Juma, Miss. Byera Kabairuka and Miss. Agatha J. Ninga.

year: Miss. Rosemary Chengula pursued a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Geology at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). The recipient successfully completed the program in 2019 and is currently a Tutorial Assistant at the University.
