ANNOUNCEMENT FOR CONTINUING STUDENTS SEEKING FOR INTER-UNIVERSITY TRANSFER (CREDIT TRANSFER)
The University of Dodoma (UDOM) wishes to inform all continuing students seeking for transfer of their credits from other universities to UDOM that in order to be admitted in any of the study programmes offered at UDOM the procedures prepared by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) MUST be adhered to. The following procedures MUST be observed by each student when lodging applications for credit transfer individually or in a group:
- Lodging a credit transfer request by writing a letter to UDOM supported by certificates used for one’s admission into a study programme and authentic examination results from one’s university and,
- Availing a curriculum of a relevant study programme which will be used for analysis against UDOM’s curriculum to determine curricula compatibility including course weighing (credits or units) for the ultimate purpose of making placement decisions.
Upon reception of the above documents, UDOM will conduct rigorous analysis of the same and communicate the results to applicants after approval of TCU. Some of the possible decisions UDOM could make include the following:
- Rejection of the request due to, among other reasons, lack of slots in a study programme, a student having a supplementary examination in one’s university, a student discontinued from studies and curriculum incompatibility;
- Acceptance of the request and placement in a subsequent relevant year of study;
- Asking an applicant to sit for a special examination to determine the student’s academic ability in order to determine placement;
- Acceptance of the request with some conditions including, but not limited to, pushing back year(s) of study or taking extra courses from a different year of study.
For students who are transferred as a group, their respective institution (s) MUST collaborate closely with UDOM to ensure that the above-mentioned procedure is adhered to. It is only when the procedure for credit transfer is complete that the respective transferred students will be invited to UDOM for registration. For an individual student, it is necessary that a releasing letter is sought from a sending institution and submitted to UDOM.
It should be noted that UDOM conducts its academic affairs through strict compliance with TCU guidelines, procedures and regulations. Hence, NO student shall be admitted into any study programme without the explicit approval of TCU.
